Llangollen Railway held a very
successful DMU gala over the weekend, featuring the resident fleet and two
visiting 'bubble cars' It was really good to meet everyone from the
Birmingham Rail Car Workgroup and Llangollen Railcars. Several spares were
collected, a set of windscreens and instrument housings for
50211, new heater control panels and a windscreen for 56160
(which had been in store for over 30 years!)
The gear controller was
inspected and we found that both the direction and gear cams were completely
seized. This week the controller has been dismantled, stripped and painted.
Sadly due to overnight rain,
the ground conditions are unsuitable for todays booked move of
50211's cab. The move will now take place as soon as the crane driver can be
sure he wont get stuck on site.
used the time constructively thought! The throttle controller has been
completed, and is shown below with a spare. Having been in bits for a few months
we had to check the positions of the cams on the spare controller, and after a
bit of head scratching had the controller back together. The 'deadman's'
correctly snapping back to 'iddling' when the handle is released.
The remaining parts of the
throttle controller have been stripped, primed and painted silver. A few coats
of varnish will be applied before the controller is reassembled. The cams
and contacts have been cleaned, and the makers plate cleaned up! (Sharpe Control
